Management and governance

FINMARI partners are under the administration of five Finnish ministries - Ministry of the Environment (Syke), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Luke), Ministry of Transport and Communications (FMI), Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment (GTK), and Ministry of Education (UH, UTU, ÅAU). The governmental institutes are directly managed by their ministries through yearly updated performance agreements.

Syke is the coordinating partner of FINMARI and holds the coordination office (director, consortium manager), which leads the strategic planning, operational activities and communication. It facilitates dialogue between the Management Group, Board, Scientific Advisory Board, the Research Council  of Finland, the Ministry of the Environment and other stakeholders including other RIs. UH is the vice coordinator of FINMARI, representing all university partners in the coordination office.

FINMARI is operated as a collaborative effort of the partner institutions by the Management Group (MG). It consists of the PIs and their substitutes from the partner institutes.

Working Groups: Science WG, Data WG, Technology WG and Outreach WG are groups for planning and operations in their fields. These permanent groups consist of researchers and technicians, and report to the MG.

Technical staff of FINMARI is a network, which collaborates across all technological topics and issues, ranging from laboratory analytics to vessel operations and autonomous observation platforms and data flows. The technology network and  is linked the core ofto both Data WG and Technology WG working groups. The marine technician network also fosters training of the staff critical for successful RI operations.
