Field stations
The University partners (UH, UTU, ÅAU) are represented by their marine field stations, located along the W-E gradient and the inner-outer archipelago gradient in the Archipelago Sea in the Finnish SW coast (Husö, Korpoström, Seili and Tvärminne).
This setting offers FINMARI a range of research infrastructures for comparative spatial studies along environmental gradients, both in the field and in experimental laboratories. The facilities of each station offer sufficient overlap to enable this, but most importantly for FINMARI, the scientific niches of each field station complement each other.

The Utö field station represents the open sea located on the island Utö and is managed by FMI, with Syke collaboration: Atmospheric and Marine Research Station. The station provides continuous, real-time data from the marine environment and the lower atmosphere. This station serves also as piloting station for technology development and testing.
As of 2024, Finland is a member of the ESFRI-consortium EMBRC. The Finnish node is coordinated by Tvärminne Zoological station, and the other FINMARI partners currently offering marine biological research services include the university field stations Seili and Husö, and the marine laboratories of the Finnish Environment Institute
