Collaboration of FINMARI with
science and society

Through collaboration and continuous dialogue FINMARI has a broad impact in the scientific community and education, as well as on environmental and fisheries administration and legislation, the public, maritime traffic, safety and security, sustainability policies, biotechnological innovations, business and industry, and the national and international society at large. FINMARI partners play an active role in expert groups led by the ministries (including the government of Åland, the autonomous region of Finland) and international expert groups (e.g. HELCOM, ICES, EuroGOOS, EEA), which significantly facilitates the use of FINMARI outcomes in policy making. The distributed nature of FINMARI further facilitates direct interaction with local and regional authorities in different parts of Finland, including NGOs, which ensures societal impact.

Between years 2020 and 2024 FINMARI partners had >30 national and international RIs and joint projects, in which 2 or more FINMARI partners collaborate with other research organisations, ministries, scientific and higher education, and public and private sectors.  In the diamond graph, the thickness of connecting lines illustrates the number of collaborative links between the FINMARI partners in these multilateral projects.
