FINMARI profiler network will be strenghtened in 2017 with a bottom-mounted profiler for year-round operation in rough field conditions

The Director General Juhani Damski of Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) signed 9 September 2016 a contract to purchase a cabled submersed profiler 'Salla' from Estonian company Flydog Marine. The buoy will be deployed 2 km south of Utö research station in summer 2017. The buoy will measure vertical profiles of temperature, salinity, oxygen, turbidity and chlorophyll throughout the year, also under ice. Data will provide insights in underwater physical and biological processes and support development of marine models. The buoy will be instrumented in co-operation with FMI and Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).

The profiler is funded with Academy of Finland FIRI2014 funding for FINMARI.
